Make the most of your Fridge

Simple steps can reduce your refrigerator's energy use.

SET IT TO THE APPROPRIATE TEMPERATURE, 35 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit.

PLACE YOUR FRIDGE IN A COOL PLACE.

ALLOW AIR CIRCULATION BEHIND THE FRIDGE.

CHECK THE DOOR SEALS.

KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED.

A little low on the creative juices?

Get exposed. Go to concerts, visit art galleries and museums, read widely, attend lectures and the theater. The more creative excellence you experience, the better your own work will be.

Soak up natural beauty. Being outdoors can contribute to the upswing in mood that generates creativity. Bring rocks, fowers, and plants into your workspace to sustain your connection to the world outside.

Keep good company. Surround yourself with other creative thinkers and share ideas. This will not only inspire you, but let you cross-fertilize too. Join an art society or an amateur theater or writers group. And if you can't find one, start one yourself.

Model creative behavior. Let your children see you reading, painting, or studying, and include them in outings to see others' work. Encourage out-of-the-box thinking rather than focusing on doing things "right."

Spend some time alone. Creative ideas often occur during moments of solitude. Build in some time each day to mull over the connections between things that happen, the people you know. Arrange the pieces of your daily life into meaningful mosaic.

Thank you Shelley Carson, PH.D. have had a bit of a slump with the creative juicy this rainy winter, found you inspiring and knew others would too.

More SlymMagic weight loss success!

Hi, this is Shay from shaysways.com -- this is my friend Lisa Pacifici, whom I've known since the 1980s. I am so proud of her! This is her story with SlymMagic:

Early in June, my friend Bobi Brown called me very late at night and shared with me the information about Slym Magic. I told her I was not interested, and I was busy with another company. Before we ended the call, she reminded me that I always wanted to find something that would help me with my own challenge with weight, which has been a battle all of my life.

The next day I called her back, and she then put Hernan on the phone and Barbara Dotts. They both shared their own stories and they were amazing. They both lost quite a bit of weight in a very short time. So right there and then, I signed up. I received the product on June 16th, 2010, and started to take it on that date.

On that very same day I had another experience that I will never forget. I met an angel that appeared at the Bank--our dogs introduced us... His name was Alberto Perusset. He happens to be one of the founders and owner of Malibu Marathon. He has been running marathons for 20 years. He invited me to come to the track and started to train me. He is the best trainer anyone could ever have. He also became a member of Global Smart Products and is building a very large business. Now that we have the Om product, it is very helpful for all the athletes.

So in short, my life has changed dramatically. I am very happy expecting to reach my goal by the end of March. I would like to achieve this by the next SlymMagic convention.

I just took a trip to Washington, D.C., did some business there and visited my Daughter in Maryland. For the first time in years, the airplane seat belt fit me and I didn't have to ask for an extension. The tray table came down and it didn't land on my stomach. Going to the bathroom in the plane was easy. The other thing I noticed is that I could pick up my purse from under the seat in front of me. I couldn't do that before. Walking down the aisle was also a breeze, I didn't hit people along the way. .

It feels like I have been released from a prison in my own body. I will be thin for the rest of my life. It is a knowing from deep inside me. I am so sure that I gave away all my clothes.

Well that's the story to date. I will keep everyone posted. For those of you taking the Slym Magic, make sure you take it and do not worry about the pounds on the scale. Just take it like you are taking your vitamins every day, and please add walking to your regimen. It makes a big difference. I love being able to move so easy. And the most important thing of all DRINK A LOT OF WATER!!! Everyone will get results with the product, just do not be attached to the outcome and when it should happen. Just take it.

If anyone has any questions about the product, please give me a call. I am happy to help.

Bye for now! With much love, -- Lisa P.

Vibrant Living - January 17, 2011

Many people believe that the passage of time is the sole cause of what ages us. Although it causes a reduction in the number of healthy cells in our bodies, time is only one factor. Being youthful is not a chronological age, but more so good health and a healthy spirit.

A nutrient rich diet is the centerpiece of a vibrant, long life. As you age, your body needs and burns fewer calories. One's diet must become even more nourishing and higher in antioxidants as the years pass. A good diet improves health, provides a high energy level, maintains a harmonious system balance, keeps your memory and thinking sharp, helps fight off disease, and contributes to a youthful appearance.

NOURISH DAILY WITH:
  • Cultured/fermented foods for friendly digestive flora
  • Fruits and vegetables that offer quick absorption of high quality nutrients
  • Sea Greens for chlorophyll and natural iodine
  • Whole grains nuts seeds and beans for protein, fiber, minerals and essential fatty acids
  • Plenty of pure water keeps your body hydrated and clean
  • Healthy unsaturated fats and oils keep your body at its best
  • Eating poultry, other meats, butter, eggs and dairy in moderation
Forget the unrealistic dieting goals. Simply take care of yourself and your body in a way that brings you a sense of peace and calm. Love yourself, and when you look in the mirror every day this year, and for the rest of your life, reconnect with the beautiful person that you are, and say, “I am fabulous!” If you don’t believe it the first time, say it again, "I am fabulous!"

Until next time...

In vibrant health,

Holiday Letter 2010

Dear Family and Friends,

Merry Christmas once again, sending glad tidings for the end of 2010 and bright blessings for the year to come, Happy New Year 2011!

We managed to maneuver through the year in a relatively peaceful manner. I spent five weeks in San Diego the first part of 2010 at one of my favorite spots, Optimum Health Institute. The best place I know to rest and chill, part of the time I spent with my lovely friend Emily Rozzano, "The Raw Food Cracker Girl" as I like to refer to her. This spunky little New Yorker can put more raw crackers out in a day, then a kitchen full of raw culinary chefs! A fun time, even in the unseasonably heavy rains.

Boyd also attended Optimum Health Institute in March for 2 weeks, and lost about 15 pounds on the vegan diet with fasts and colonics. He really enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and the extensive information offered at the classes there.

Our business remains stable with a loyal following of alternative minded, aware customers. We are very grateful to continue marching forward into 2011 soundly, while adding a new collection of Tattvas Oils formulated by Divine Archetypes out of Carlsbad, California. In the last year we had two friends depart Oregon to take residence at The Chopra Center, both as practitioner, IT manager and formulator, exciting for all of us. While in San Diego I spent time on campus and will pursue some further education at the Chopra Center in 2011, with the intention of completing my yoga instructor certification.

We have had a number of visits from the Moeller Children over the year, fun as always. Lydia is here now and we are baking, making cards, laughing and in general very happy to know one another. Our animals (Lhasa Apso, Wookie, and orange tabby, Ralph) love their visits as they receive massive amounts of attention, treats, and in general made to feel human...odd, we know.

Boyd continues drumming for four or five bands in the Portland Area, keeping him busy 3-4 nights a week. In August, he recorded an album in Portland for blues and soul singer, Terry Evans, and was very pleased with the result.

Boyd also continues his interest in shamanism and consciousness. He attended two intensive workshops with the renown American shaman, Ellyn Rosenthal, experiencing a Peruvian shaman lineage with fire rituals, meditation and chants. We both continue our regular Bikram Yoga practice.

We did some traveling in the RV this year, short fun jaunts to beach and mountains...it is very small and mostly Boyd's joy vehicle, I tolerate the closeness just barely.

A few things learned from this year...if your feet hurt from your shoes, buy new sensible shoes. In regards to your teeth, do what your dentist tells you, get an electric toothbrush. If you think you are too old to learn something new...you probably are. Buy organic, nothing new, always be reading something. Remember in the movie Avatar, "I see you..." Well, I see you, I feel you, and it is a sweet moment. Thank you for being a part of our journey! We continue to live a very harmonious life, full of gratitude.

Peace,
Shay Arave

Like simple...and dark chocolate...Holiday Coconut Rum Truffles

Holiday desserts should be festive, a bit extravagant, and extraordinarily delicious. Some grace the center of your holiday table and are rich and traditional, while others provide a satisfying end to a special meal.
Our favorite are these Coconut Rum Truffles – they're surprisingly simple to make and perfect for entertaining. To give as a gift, pack in paper candy cups and place in a pretty tin.
3 tablespoons butter
8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
3 tablespoons dark rum
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
1 teaspoon
almond extract
1 1/2 cups shredded, sweetened coconut

In a small, heavy saucepan (or double boiler), melt butter and chocolate together until smooth. Remove from heat. Add rum, cream, egg yolk, sugar, almond extract, and 1/2 cup of the coconut. Whisk until well blended. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Roll into one-inch balls, then roll the balls in the remaining 1 cup coconut. Set on waxed paper to harden. Store, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, or in the freezer for up to one month.

Make Your Own Antibacterial Spray

10 drops grapefruit seed extract or tea tree oil
1 teaspoon biodegradable liquid soap

Combine ingredients in a 1-quart spray bottle. Spray on sinks, countertops, or any smooth surface and wipe clean.

White vinegar is a powerful antifungal and germ-killer liquid, also get rid of hard-water stains and buildup.

Add about 5 drops of tea tree oil a potent antifungal oil per cup of white vinegar and spray onto mildew stains...wait 10 to 15 mintues and then wipe clean.
